Pictured, our directors David and Jonathan Marsden handing over their fundraising and donations to Leeds Mencap, outside of the charities new ‘Vinery Terrace’ building. Jonathan and David visited the charity Leeds Mencap's new centre, to see how their fundraising and service donations have helped them begin their new life in the brand new purpose built building, and they weren’t disappointed. The new centre not only provides much needed support for people with learning disabilities and their families, it also provides the charity with the space they need to expand and grow their services in the future... Inside the building there is a collection of specialist rooms to help people with disabilities lead a normal, healthy and sociable life. Specialist ‘Changing Places’ facilities allows people to have the flexibility, to explore a different environment to their homes, giving them the freedom to socialise and meet new people.
Cath Lee, Chief Executive Officer, Leeds Mencap said, “"It was wonderful to show Jonathan and David around the centre now that we are settled in. Their contribution has been immense and made such a difference to us getting up and running." The centre is also a place for the community and its residents, welcoming clubs, support groups, social events and businesses. It is spacious, light and airy and contains many rooms for groups and business activities. Multi sized conference rooms are available for booking, equipped with their own kitchens. Small hot desk rooms are also dotted around the centre, as well as a fully active local nursery on site providing much needed child care for the area. The centre contains a fantastic new sensory room which creates a place for learning, using touch, and light to engage the mind. Whilst 3 activity rooms and a soft play area allow for socialising and learning for all ages. Jonathan Marsden commented, “We were so surprised with the size of the new centre, and are thrilled to see it thriving already. We are proud to have been a part of its development, and are already looking forward to working with Leeds Mencap to help make sure they have the funding to keep up their good work. Having seen the facilities and what they have to offer, we know they will make a huge difference to the local community and that’s exactly what we set out to achieve” As previously written, The Technology Group have provided the charity with telephony and internet services for three years, giving them £50,000 worth of telephony and internet at no cost. Jonathan and David have additionally self-funded a trek to the Sahara; which gained support from other businesses and individuals in sponsorships and as a result, has provided the centre with an added £6613 - a much needed boost in the initial stages of the centre’s set up. The Technology Group are already planning their next endeavour for the charity. Team members are grabbing their trainers this July and running the Leeds 10K in aid of the charity. The charity still has a list of items to buy to complete the centre, and continued funding is needed for its success. Any local businesses who might be able to lend some support to the building or would like to use the facilities for their next meetings are being welcomed with open arms. As a company we are thrilled to have helped such a wonderful charity. We wish them every success in their new building.
